Paddling...Florida...Hiking...Virginia

Over the last 15 years, we've combined careers in outdoor writing and guiding, publishing eight books, and writing numerous articles (many are posted in the righthand column).

All this while working as kayak guides in the Florida Keys and Virginia's Eastern Shore.

NEW: Paddle with us in the fabulous Florida Keys!

The Florida Keys don't end at Key West! We took our kayaks out on a high-speed ferry to the Dry Tortugas, a remote cluster of islands in the Gulf of Mexico. We paddled and snorkeled these sublime waters and patch coral reefs, then camped in the shadow of the massive, old brick Fort Jefferson. Click photo to read the story.

Hiking the border of Virginia and Kentucky is like tracing a razor's edge. The 120-mile Pine Mountain Trail follows the edge where the Virginia plate has been pushing up over the Kentucky plate for millenia.

The past is prevalent all along the trail, where homesteads and moonshiner's cabins are marked with interpretive signs and a million years of geologic history are on display.

The story unfolds in Hiking Virginia, our award-winning trail guide to the entire state.
