Summer travelin'

June 1, 2004

This month we cover Florida Keys festivals, mid-Atlantic beaches, and a Balkan photography exhibit.

It’s time to hit the beach! But sometimes lying in the sun isn’t all the doctor ordered. We’ve rated Mid-Atlantic beaches for natural attractions, recreation, and even romance. Whether your preference is hiking or camping, wildlife or waterside dining, these beaches won’t disappoint. Read our new article in the Washingtonian: www.washingtonian.com/travel/spring/04bestbeaches.html

Hardly a summer weekend goes by in the Florida Keys without a special event or festival taking place. This very Saturday is a new bike/kayak event for National Trails Day. Cuban heritage, free-roaming chickens, Ernest Hemingway's life and work, and the Keys' creative cuisine are all commemorated with festivals in June, July and August www.burnhamink.com/work16.htm

Some of our photographs from last year’s Balkan trek are included in an exhibition currently on display at the Barge Cafe in Hamilton, NY, June 1-10. If you know of an organization that might like to host the exhibit, it’s available after June 10. For more info and to read about the trip, click

Another trek and a bicycling trip are planned for this summer if you want to go!

We’ve added some new features to www.BurnhamInk.com to help you plan your summer travels. Under “Quick Links” in the lower left of every page, you’ll find links to discounted outdoor gear, travel books, airfare and accommodations. We earn a slight commission for items purchased from these links (which helps pay our hosting fees).

Wishing you safe and happy travels!
