Escape to Tangier Island

29-Apr-2009

We're thrilled with the resumption of ferry service from our town of Onancock, VA to the tiny watermen's community of Tangier Island, 12 miles out in the Chesapeake Bay. Service aboard the Joyce Marie begins this weekend, through September.

In honor of that, we've posted an article at http://www.burnhamvirginia.com/town-tangier.html about the Tangier Watermen's Tour. On this unique trip visitor get to ride along with crews pulling crab pots, visit a crab shanty where they 'bust' into softshells, then head to a local restaurant to dine on the delicacy the island is famous for.

Enjoy, and consider a trip to this authentic island sometime. It really is like stepping back in time.
